Good health is a blessing we should nurture

We are not all born with good health, but we can all take steps to preserve and hopefully improve the health we have.  Whilst the food we eat can influence our health, the things we do and way we live our lives represent the balance needed to maintain our best state of health.

October 10th - World Mental Health Day

The first World Mental Health Day theme was ‘Improving the Quality of Mental Health Services throughout the World’ in 1994. 27 countries sent feedback reports after the campaign and there were national campaigns in Australia and England. In 1992, the World Federation of Mental Health created World Mental Health Day. Globally, one in four people will need mental health care in their lives.

Today, October 10th, World Mental Health Day serves as a reminder that whatever you’re going through, you’re not alone.  Too often we think that we’re the only ones facing a hard time.  It’s uplifting to know that other people have gone through it and made it out to the other end.  It reminds us that we can overcome our own pain.

We all know how the look and smell of flowers can cheer people up. Create a comforting environment in your home for yourself and your loved ones by the use of aromatherapy fragrancing of the room in which you spend most time together. Place a few drops of essential oil on a clean, dry, flat pebble. Leave it on a saucer on a window ledge. Refresh each day with a few more drops of oil.

Alternately, buy an essential oil vapouriser or burner and follow the manufacturers instructions in its use.

Research has shown that certain essential oils can produce an anxiolytic, anxiety-reducing effect, and increase the body's production of serotonin.  Favourite essential oils to enhance mental wellbeing include: lavender, rosemary, sweet orange, and chamomile. These can be used individually or can be used in any combination together.
