Foraging

Local food can be free food

Although we are surrounded by wild food, don’t just take from anywhere.  If the land is private you need the landowner’s permission.  Think about where your picking from, aim to pick from areas that animals and unsafe chemicals haven not been able to contaminate.  Never uproot plants, it is both illegal and damages the ecosystem, simply follow the rule of taking a little and leaving the rest to grow on. Never pick protected species or cause permanent damage.  Britain’s wild plants are all protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981), which makes it illegal to dig up or remove a plant. Check the law before you forage or if in doubt, why not take part in a foraging class with an expert and learn the basics.

Hydroponics

Hydroponics is the science of growing plants without using soil, by feeding them on mineral nutrient salts dissolved in water.
